frequent questions
Commmissions
How long do custom orders take?
On average, a custom made piece of original artwork can take between 2-4 weeks depending on the size and design. A more accurate time frame will be given once we have discussed the design, and before payment is made.
How are custom order payments taken?
All payments are paid in full. Once payment is recieved, I will begin working on your piece immediately. Please note that once payment has been made, the chosen design can not be altered.
What do I have to decide on for you to create my perfect piece?
You will choose your preferred colour and size shell, as well as the painted design inside. To get your commission as accurate as possible, feel free to send over images of other pieces of artwork I have completed, as well as images of the type of creature you'd like painted inside. The more detail you can provide, the closer I can get the piece to be exactly what you like!
How do I request a commissioned piece?
Simply fill out the form below with as much detail as possible about what sort of design you would like. Or, you can email me at holl.elyse@gmail.com and attach any images that would help describe your desired design.
Sustainability
Shells
Around the world, many shells are sadly harvested unethically. Sea shells contain living creatures such as clams, oysters and scallops, which are pulled from their natural habitat and killed for shell sales. Therefore, the shells I use in my art are vintage; they have been handed down to me by my grandparents, or purchased second hand. Using second hand shells avoids any further support of taking live sea creatures from their habitats. Whilst this means I am unable to know how these shells were originally obtained, it means I am repurposing these beautiful pieces of nature whilst raising awareness through my art on how to help and protect our oceans and all its inhabitants.
Packaging
I use packaging from Priory Direct - a planet friendly packaging supplier who provide sustainable packaging.
Any bubble wrap used has been re-used from other companies.
Please save these materials and use them again!
Resin
In the wrong hands, resin can be wasteful as it starts off as a liquid, and sadly this has meant some people have a lot of misconceptions about resin. However, I use many methods to ensure the most minimal amount of resin possible is wasted in my artistic process. I do this in the following ways: I use paper cups to mix my resin, and I reuse the cups multiple times. I use wooden sticks to mix it, and again these are scraped and reused many times.
Little to no resin gets wasted; I carefully measure out certain amounts, I scrape out as much as possible, and any left over will get poured into a new shell (I always have an empty one waiting!)
